'Moor' Fun for the Fam - Family Night at Music at the Moor
We’re knee-deep in the summer heat, but at Music at the Moor, we’re certain an evening under the sun will be worth it. On Wednesday July 17th, we not only look forward to welcoming Pottstown’s premiere rock n’ roll band, High Street, to the SCI Pavilion, but we’re also very excited that the Alpacas of Windy Haven Farm will also make their own guest appearance.
During each night of Music at the Moor, the Stroudsmoor team strives to make the outing entirely family-friendly, but if you’re looking for the perfect night to bring the kiddos, then we definitely recommend you join us on the 17th!
In addition to Windy Haven Farms’ alpaca petting zoo, we will have a face-painting station as well as a handful of lawn games including Giant Jenga and kid-safe axe throwing—all free of charge!
Meanwhile, moms and dads can also look forward to enjoying a wonderfully seasonal Braised, Boiled & BBQ dinner buffet, wine tastings with Franklin Hills Vineyard, and dancing beneath the Pavilion with High Street rock n’ roll band.
As we count down the days to our mid-July event, we’re taking some time to get to know the Alpacas of Windy Haven Farms and the dynamic couple that founded the animal sanctuary and farm.
Meet the Alpacas of Windy Haven Farms
Windy Haven Farms, family-owned-and-operated, serves not only as a sanctuary for a diverse herd of alpacas, but it is also an actively functioning farm, featuring a farm store selling alpaca fur products like dryer balls, socks, and hats to name a few.
Carina Havenstrite, founder, says that the founding and growth of the alpaca farm has been a genuine labor of love. She explained that when she and her husband first acquired the land for the farm in 2014, “the house was considered a ‘non-habitable structure.'”
However, with their own two hands and the help of dedicated family and friends, the couple has been able to turn the alpaca farm into the thriving business and sanctuary it is today.
The herd initially began with a quartet of “Suri” alpaca sisters consisting of Sally, Chevelle, Carmen, and Moondance.
The alpaca farmer went on to explain that their first residents on the farm came when a different farm several hours away was getting out of the business and needed loving homes for their furry friends. And that’s where Windy Haven Farms got their start. Since welcoming the family of four to the farm, the alpaca herd has grown exponentially. Carina states that the majority of their residents now are rescues and rehomes, giving the alpacas of Windy Haven Farm a wide variety not only of appearances, but wonderfully unique personalities and character traits.
